Traditional Ice Hockey Tournament of Gas Companies Held in the Czech Republic

The Czech city of Pilsen has played host to the 14th Ice Hockey Tournament of Gas Companies. The event has been organized by Vemex s.r.o with support from Czech company Net4gaz and Finnish Gasum.

The tournament has already become a good tradition among athletes, the gas workers. The hockey event began with the national anthems of all the participants – Russian, Finnish, Slovak and Czech national anthems – and a welcome address by the Governor of Pilsen Region, Mr. Václav Šlajs.

After the welcome address, high passions began to boil on the ice hockey rink. The finals featured the Gazprom Export Moscow team against the Gasumex Prague-Helsinki team. The match for third place was played between Slovakian team GAS Sk and Czech Net4gaz, who eventually won on a shootout.

Children from three orphanages in Pilsen Region were able to attend the Saturday’s matches and they were happy and entertained by the spectacular hockey.

In the finals, the Gazprom Export team, headed by Director General Alexander Medvedev, entered the ice hockey rink against Gasumex (a joint team between the Vemex team and the Gasum team) reinforced by Czech hockey veterans. The regulation time ended with the score 2-2. By the end of shootout, Gasumex was unable to maintain its temporary advantage, and Gazprom Export team won the cup.

The main winner at the tournament was sports competitive spirit and friendship. A number of meetings were held during the competition. Representatives of company management, the Russian Embassy in the Czech Republic, representatives of Slovak company Nafta Gbely, which previously participated in these tournaments, as well as the chairman of the Czech Gas Union were all present to watch the hockey games and discuss matters.

Next year’s tournament, which will be held in Prague, will be attended by our Kazakh partners from KazTransGas-Almaty.
